We have been busy this month with our focus on health, specifically about how it relates to food.  That’s why our most recent tour was especially fitting. This time, the youth received a tour of the Freestore Foodbank’s Cincinnati COOKS! facility and learned more about the program.

Our visit was hosted by Chef Marcus and the Cincinnati COOKS! staff. First, we explored the kitchen and the large walk-in freezers.  Next, the youth engaged in conversation with the staff who shared their stories of how they became interested in cooking and Cincinnati COOKS. Lastly, we got to the good stuff with a dynamic discussion on healthy food options, portion control, and nutrition.  The staff shared tips on how to prepare balanced and nutritional meals.

Cincinnati COOKS is a free culinary job training program. During the 10-week course, students learn the mechanics of a commercial kitchen, as well as professional and life skills to ensure success in the food service industry and in their personal lives.
